Mountain hike

One of the biggest attractions of the Pieniny is Trzy Korony – the highest peak of the Central Pieniny belonging to the Three Crowns Massif, rising to 982 meters above sea level. The trail from Sromowce Niżne leads through a mountain hut and is calm and fairly easy, while providing incredible views. On weekends, however, you may encounter large groups of tourists there, so it is worth getting up early and setting off into the mountains first thing in the morning.

An interesting idea for a mountain hike is walking the ridge of the Little Pieniny from Jaworki to Szczawnica. The route from the Homole gorge including Wysoka is over 11 km long. The trip can be shortened by using the chairlift. On this route you can admire incredible mountain landscapes and unique rock formations, and meet... shepherds with cheese made from fresh sheep's milk. It's worth trying local products!

Pieniny volcanoes: Bryjarka, Wdżar and Jarmuta

Kacwin Waterfall and inactive Pieniny volcanoes are lesser-known attractions near Szczawnica. If you are looking for unusual places to explore, visit the waterfalls in Kacwin or the volcanoes Bryjarka, Wdżar, and Jarmuta. Among the local rocks, there is Miocene subvolcanic Pieniny andesite, which was once mined in quarries there.

Dunajec – raft trip, rafting, and kayaking

The picturesque Dunajec Gorge is a place where many activities can be enjoyed in the spring–summer season. Kayaking, rafting, or rafting on a traditional raft are attractions that draw water sports enthusiasts. The trip through the Dunajec Gorge starts at the raftsmen's harbor in Sromowce and ends in Szczawnica or, in the extended version, in Krościenko. This section is about 18 km long, and the Dunajec winds picturesquely between high white mountains reaching about 300 m in height. A raft trip with raftsmen to Szczawnica takes about 2 hours 30 minutes (15 minutes longer to Krościenko). The ticket price for an adult in the high season of 2024 is 103 PLN or 123 PLN depending on the chosen route. With a discount, tickets cost 73 PLN or 83 PLN, respectively. Another option is rafting on a Dunajec pontoon or a single kayak trip. Organizers suggest combining water sports on the Dunajec with bike rental to return to Szczawnica on two wheels after water activities.

Jazz evening at Muzyczna Owczarnia

Not far from the Szczawnica spa in Jaworki is Muzyczna Owczarnia, where numerous live music events take place. The hosts invite bands and solo musicians performing classical and jazz music as well as stronger sounds. While in the area, it is worth visiting this club, but check the schedule in advance. At the turn of July and August 2024, a jazz festival is held here, attracting many fans of this music.
